Family Session Prep Guide

Session Day - What to bring:

  • Snacks for the little ones. We will always go at the pace of the kids because happy kids = happy photos!
  • Hair brush and hair products if needed.
  • Touch-up make-up: lip-wear, eyeliner. Don't worry about acne or scars. I will take care of that for you.
  • The studio is a shoe-free zone. If you need to wear shoes for your photos, we will clean the soles first so don't worry. But otherwise, bare feet is best!

Style guide - What to Wear:

  • Go simple for family’s wardrobe. When planning your outfits for the family & sibling shots, stick with soft, neutral colors like white, grey or cream as the dominant colors. This keeps the focus on baby and the family connection. Please make sure everything is ironed and stain-free.
  • For siblings, I recommend a classic, timeless outfit. Avoid prints, big brand logos and shirts with writing. Those can be distracting in photos as the eye immediately goes to the words or picture on the shirt instead of the sweet family moment.
  • I am more than happy to help! If you have any questions or want some inspiration for wardrobe or other help, please reach out.
  • Sit back & enjoy the session. Not to sound super cheesy, but it’s true — this time is so fleeting, take it in! I want you to have fun watching your new little one’s first photo session. It’s going to be fantastic! I can’t wait!

what to Avoid

  • Neon colors. Vibrant, neon colors can create a color-cast changing the color and tint of your skin.
  • Stripes and busy patterns. Less is more!

LAY EVERYTHING OUT

Group everyones outfit and lay. across a bed to be sure everything coordinates. Think about Mom's outfit first and then it gets easier to plan everyone else's outfits around hers.

THINK ABOUT YOUR IMAGE DISPLAY

When choosing colours and tones, ask yourself how it will coordinate with your home once it becomes Wall Art. The whole idea of investing in family photography is so that you can enjoy the fruits of your labor everyday in your home.

DON’T REINVENT THE WHEEL

Draw inspiration from Instagram & Facebook to see what speaks to you and your family style. The best way to know what’s trending or what you love is to start gathering images that you love. Don’t know how to find what you’re looking for? Try a IG search for #familyphotographer #familyphotography to start.
